Hello again from Stanford. Mom's been doing well today. She did some art projects, and some visitors came today. Alison and I both got off work at 8pm, both of us needing to catch up on things, and we came straight here afterwards.

Right now she's rather restless, as it's hard to get too comfortable at times. We'll probably stay with her till she falls asleep. Alison is reading her some bible verses right now as she rests her eyes. My mom longs for the day when she can finally leave these walls and be her normal, active self.

Yesterday she wasn't so hot, as it was a chemo day. Hard as usual, so your prayers and thoughts for her comfort and strength are always appreciated. Thankfully, tomorrow is the very last treatment. Forever we hope. I'll drop off alison in the morning and head to Naomi's bday party in SL.

But guess what? today, I kid you not, I got a call because I'm a potential match for a bone marrow transplant. I registered in the bone marrow transplant registry at calpoly as AACF did a big push especially because Asian matches are far and few between. So I'm scheduled to have my blood tested again on Wednesday. I'm excited! I may not be able to physically aid my mother-in-law, but I can potentially save someone else's life! wooot! God's timing is so uncanny... here I am in the BMT, the BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT ward, and I get a call to be a bone marrow match. wowz.

I'm at the Stanford Medical Center right now, because I was able to take off half a day to be with my mom-in-law.  I like my boss.  And I trust James Q to take care of anything while I'm gone.

She's doing very well today, she's feeling good, and she went for a walk around the ward.  We played a game of boggle, and watched some Oprah too.  Eddy and Renee came by to visit for about an hour, because she had a check-up appointment here as well.  It's the first time they've met.  They shared stories and Renee gave her food tips and nausea tips.  Big blessing.

Much different than last night.  We were all there too.  But since it was her chemo day, she was knocked out.  She felt sick, had big headaches and she couldn't get much rest.  But the good news is that the first day is supposed to be the hardest.

I'm about to head off the worship practice tonight.  Later!~

Mother-in-law's cancer treatment schedule:

8/18 - First Chemo Treatment
8/19 - Day of Rest (No Chemo)
8/20 - Second Chemo Treatment
8/21 - Day of Rest (No Chemo)
8/22 - Third Chemo Treatment
8/23 - Day of Rest (No Chemo)
8/24 - Bone Marrow Transplant given
From 8/25 until discharge (she may stay in the hospital for up to 2 wks) - Hospital Observation of her condition

Until then, she has been enjoying her "break" between treatments, so praise the Lord for the few weeks she's had eating all she wants and playing tennis and etc. The last treatment she had was to harvest stem cells from her in a procedure called apheresis, since they will be using her own blood and stem cells for the bone marrow transplant (BMT). She is considered an autologous (self) donor. This BMT process is sure to be taxing and we covet your prayers! Our family will be in the hospital for the days mentioned, and caring for her in the 30+ days of recovery afterward when her immune system is very low. Pray for strength, ways to pass the time, and peace for my mother (who usually can't sit still for more than 20 minutes!).

What we've been up to, part 2a: church

We go to Community Baptist Church of San Jose (CBCSJ) in campbell, which is south of san jose.  We both serve in the youth ministry and music team.  I would guess we have about 500 people, 300 in the cantonese congregation and 200 in the english.  It started as a chinese-speaking church but as the english-speaking children of founders grew, the need for an english ministry grew as well.

God has given both of us a heart for youth, and we both love it.  It was in those middle school and high school years that we ourselves made important leaps in our faith, so we see how valuable that time in our youths' lives are.  Our youth group is 7th-12th grade and we average 50 or so.  Right now it's particularly exciting to see God working in their lives, and we definitely see them speaking out more about their faith to their friends and classmates, and seeking to be disciples of Christ.

As for music, we have two teams, and each team does 2 weeks in a row.  So alison and I are on the same team and we lead for two weeks, then are off for two weeks.  I think it's a pretty good system, and our teams are growing and melding together each time.  I feel particularly blessed that those involved in this ministry with us have real passionate hearts for God.  It's also a rare gem to find musicians who are worshippers first, and musicians second.  I've known soooo many people over the years who were the opposite unfortunately.

Schedule-wise, church definitely takes the lion share.  Once a month, youth staff meetings are on monday.  On Tuesdays, alison and I meet with our small groups on alternating weeks (so she would have sg one week, then I'm the next week, and so on).  Wednesdays are worship practice 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off.  Thursday is our career group at church.  Friday is youth group.  Once a month on Sundays is our youth planning meetings with all the youth.

My bike got stolen.  And the U-Lock that was attached to it.

someone cut the steel cable that my U-Lock was connected to.  So if anyone seems a random bike with a U-lock dangling from it, be suspicious.

And it was right outside my complex.

So to recap my bike situation:
bike #1) hit by motorcycle on way to work
bike #2) stolen in front of house
bike #3) left pedal broke off.  Too expensive to repair
bike #4) stolen from bike rack.

How am I feeling?  pretty good actually.  God gives and God takes away.  Blessed be His name.  I hope someone is blessed by God's gift of a bike.  Now I'm going to need alison to drive me to work.  :D
